Parliamentary Committee Grilled Nandan Nilekani And Sudha Pillai

Unique identification (UID) project or Aadhar project has been in controversies from the very beginning. With no planning and strategy at all and crucial lacunas, Aadhar project is bound to fail. In fact, Aadhar project and Indian government are hiding truth from Indian citizens.

Aadhar project is implemented by unique identification authority of India (UIDAI) under the chairmanship of Nandan Nilekani. Neither the Aadhar project nor the UIDAI are constituted through a legislative act. This means neither Aadhar project nor UIDAI are legally constituted and constitutional valid project and authority.

While there is no chance that Aadhar project would be approved by Parliamentary Committee because it is illegal and unconstitutional yet recently the Parliamentary panel challenged the very basis and requirement of Aadhar number.

Nandan Nilekani, along with Planning Commission secretary Sudha Pillai, appeared before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Finance on Friday where many members expressed their reservations about the Aadhar project. Questions were asked about the need, non mandatory nature of the project, multiplicity of cards in India, etc.

Till now none have asked questions regarding lack of legal framework, safeguards against civil liberties violations, data security and cyber security measures undertaken to safeguard biometric data, etc.

These are the real questions that even Nandan Nilekani cannot answer and in the absence of answers to these questions, Aadhar would not be accepted by the Parliamentary Committee.
